Catching Crawfish . . . Catching Arrows

Josh is the best. He's almost seven and he still thinks his Papa can do anything. Recently, he has been interested in bows and arrows. He snapped a pretty cool wooden bow we got from a friend, so we've been on the lookout for a new bow stick. One afternoon during his searching he came into the house and talked with Mama about catching arrows. He showed her how he would move to catch an arrow if someone fired one at him. His moves were pretty slick - he showed them to me later that night during dinner.

So, that afternoon he turned to Mama and asked, "Do you think I could catch an arrow?" Okay, what do you say to that? "Sure, you're so fast." You know where that could lead - ACTUALLY TRYING TO CATCH AN ARROW. Or, you could deflate him and tell him how dangerous it is and that it's crazy to even think about. Mama - being a wise mama - waited. Josh thought through things for a minute and then said, "Papa could do it!" Mama said, "Oh, really. Why do you say that?" He looked up at her and said, "Papa catches crawfish," suggesting that if Papa can catch crawfish, then he can catch arrows.

I love you, Josh. You really are the best.
