We have a huge meadow surrounded by trees near our home. I like to go running there early in the morning or in the evening. Sometimes I see wild rabbits and the occasional skunk, but yesterday I saw a fox. There was really thick fog that morning and as I came around some trees and down a hill I saw the fox standing right in the middle of the path, shrouded in mist. We starred at each other for a second before it trotted off. It was wonderful, almost surreal with the mist. I saw the same fox three times that morning.
Sometimes Mama takes the kids to one of our favorate places - Josie's Cove - early in the morning right when they get up. They have a breakfast picnic there and have full reign of the park. It's a great way to start the day. This morning they got to feed two swans for about 20 minutes. Just so you know, swans are really big. They're not like ducks, or even geese. It's wonderful what you can find outside when you get up early.
This morning we started an "Animals in the Morning" chart. We've only kept track of yesterday and today, but we've already recorded seeing rabbits, foxes, swans, skunks, and opossums. We hope to add some raccoons soon. Almost two years ago, Josh and I were on an early morning walk and we saw four raccoons running around together. We still talk about that.
