While eating dinner a few nights ago, we started talking about sometimes food vs. anytime food. We started playing a game . . . someone says a food and we'd use our hands to motion whether it is an anytime food or a sometime food. We mentioned Eric had a hamburger the day before (a celebratory Blimpie Burger signalling the end of the first part of prelims). Joshua asked, "What is a hamburger?" Eric answered him, "They grind up a cow and turn it into a patty and put it in a sandwich."

Of course this brought a real nice image to our minds and with it, even more questions . . . "Does it hurt the cow?", "Does the cow make noises?" Eric went on to explain, in great Fast Food Nation detail how we get beef and chicken (complete with sound effects) and how poorly the animals are treated and how they are slaughtered. During this conversation Josie had a sickening/fascinated look on her face, and our sensitive little Josh covered his ears. Thank you, Eric.

Have you seen Sicko? Micheal Moores new movie on the health care system. Its so disturbing. We want to move to France. Even the health care if better in Cuba! You have to watch this movie.
John,
We've been wanting to watch that. We've seen others about the war, the electric car, business of giving birth . . . all are so upsetting. I have a hard time watching them because I just feel so upset after.
Michelle - I think Andrea has the best compiled list of ward members. I need to go through it like you did! I am glad you found me and thanks for you advise about the YMCA. When we get back this fall I am going to make it a top priority. Ryan and I saw Fast Food Nation and didn't eat any fast food for months. I wish I could say we still haven't had fast food but that would be a lie.
I found you!! Well I didn't, Bradly helped me out. Now I can catch up with your cute family "blogger style"
I'd love the catch up with you for real though. I'll send you an invite to my blog... I'll need your email address. send it to me at hcowdell@gmail.com - Thanks for letting me peek into your world. BTW- we have an isaac too.
take care. love ya!!
michelle, this is so funny--we don't really ever eat bacon, but for some reason it came up the other day. charles asked "does bacon come from a factory?" so i explained it--in pretty vague terms so as to not terrify them, but they heard plenty. they all stood there, wide eyed and open mouthed, shocked at the reality of it all. Guess now we'll really never have bacon!
Very funny!
I am proud to report that we are switching to grass-fed beef grown in Manchester, Michigan. Those cows do not have as bad a life, or as bad a death.
Andrea,
The world would be a better place if there were more people like you around!
ok michelle, this is wierd, i know, to ask you this here, but i can't find your email address anywhere! anyway, hopefully you read you comments often. :)
i wanted to ask you if you guys had a food dehydrator. i am researching them right now and really want to get one, but the cheaper ones (that we would splurge money on...i.e. $40) get really bad reviews and seem 'cheap'. any suggestions? i don't want to throw out 40$ only to have to buy another better one down the road.
ok, this is under the "making of vegans" post, so maybe its not *totally* off topic! ha ha!
love, meg
that does make it sound really gross, but I sure hope he enjoyed the blimpie burger!! I LOVE that place, but Ryan gags when he walks by it now because it is incredibly greasy. So, add that part to the story, take a cow, grind it up, make a patty, and fry it so it is greasy, then eat it. Yum!
